We are officially launching our annual B Mack & Karly Cold Weather Clothing Drive on Dec 11 through to the end of February, but the cold weather has already started... SO WE NEED YOUR HELP! And you can do so THIS MONDAY ;)
This monday at our main sponsor dropoff location, Kelowna Toyota, on cary road we will be on location asking for and greatly accepting your previously used winter clothing and accessories, to be distributed for our unhoused community with our friends at the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society, and Kelowna Outreach.
Not sure winter clothing, too! Blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, tents, backpacks, suitcases and more are needed, with a major emphasis on mens pants size Large or SMALLER... also HAND WARMERS are in big demand.
We thank you in advance and hope to see you MONDAY Nov 20, 2023 at Kelowna Toyota between 6-10am!

Ever try PUNKIN' pie!?
It turns out, my mother-in-Law WASN'T trying to be cute... it's ACTUALLY how she says it!
I overheard my sweet, loving and wonderful MIL saying the word PUMPKIN, as if she was a 3 year old...
At first I thought she was just trying to play it up, and be adorable, but after hearing it said in serious conversations, about pumpkins lol, NOPE! She just says it like this...
I hope to get a recording one day so you can hear the audio!
Love you, Jody...

Bryn McNair speaks on John's Angels and the Community
From the FB group page for John's Angels:
We continue our advocacy and volunteering in the homeless community. As our numbers have increased so much we are looking at putting together a team to help organize within our group. If you are interested and it’s available to you please join our FB group for John's Angels - https://www.facebook.com/groups/494942456143594
Each member is valued for whatever they can contribute. Not everyone is capable and will want to go out with us.
Here are some of the ways we can collectively work in this group to show support:
- donate and/or collect donations (sorting thru before we deliver is great as some items might not be in great shape or possibly for the wrong season)
- we always welcome monetary donations (small or large) at Kelowna.johns.angels@gmail.com
We use these to purchase food and drinks, handwarmers, tarps & other supplies we may be short of
-with winter coming up we try to make some homemade soups and baking to deliver , and always appreciate what the volunteers can make or contribute
- we are always looking for anyone with connections to restaurants or cooks that are willing to donate or provide us with food at a special rate
- as you get more familiar our hope is that people will be comfortable posting their own events and small groups to go out with
We generally go in small groups of 4-6 as it’s easier to have direct contact with the people and organize the food/supplies we bring out. Anyone who would like to go sometime as a first experience with us is welcome. We will post events on this site as to day and time and you can sign up. The ideal situation would be getting groups out on different day and times. We’re aware that people are working so may not be able to join a group going out mid day.

Please help John's Angels
A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO HELENE, SHEY, SYLVIA, TOR, TONY, DEBRA, Bryn who we will talk to next week on the show, and everyone else who's been offering their support and volunteering with John's Angels, who advocate for the Unhoused in our community, appropriately named after John Thiessen who worked tirelessly, day after day trying to do anything and everything he could to help those who need it the most.
THIS EXCERPT BELOW IS FROM THE FB GROUP PAGE FROM JOHN'S ANGELS
All the awareness thru media and community word of mouth has brought in many new concerned citizens and volunteers. As a result - the city made a big announcement about taking a more proactive approach in the next few months. Tiny homes will be made available with supporting resources - details such as location are not clear yet but they said soon to come.
In the meantime John's Angels will continue their advocacy and volunteering in the homeless community. As numbers have increased so much they are looking at putting together a team to help organize within our group. If you are interested and it’s available to you please message Sylvia Matthews on FB messenger.

Brian, I was at the rail trail today talking with the couple I know. They have never spent a winter homeless let alone in tent city. They had a place lined up which fell through - second one in as many months. If they could find something before the cold hits ideally for $1200 but realistically prob closer to $1500 that would be amazing. I’ve only known them a few months but their strength and tenacity has been so inspiring. I would love to see them finally get a break to get their lives back on track Maybe if we put a word out for them some kind citizen will come thru for them.

Bret bit me, so don't be fooled...
Cuz he'll bite you too! My wife said the NICEST thing about the fact that Bret, our friend's new terrier cross rescue (Yes, that's Bret with 1 T), bit me, and our friend Julie. So let me paint the picture...
We were at our friend Tawny's house for a birthday party and Bret is very new to that home, and hasn't been around a lot of people, so the party was somewhat of a test for him... and he FAILED! He ended up biting me, Julie and at least one other person, but the reason my wife came up with as to why is THE BEST.
She said it's because Bret felt threatened and out of sorts with too many people in the living room, and since he felt MOST comfortable with me, he decided I would be the most appropriate outlet for his chomp chomp! And you know what? I'm GOOD WITH THAT REASONING!
The funniest part to me was when Julie was trying to capture the birthday cake and approached Tawny while recording video, and I said,
"Julie, Bret's gonna bite you! You're getting too close...". And she didnt' listen. And GUESS WHAT! SHE GOT BIT!!!
Oh, Bret...
