Rapper 6ix9ine has been released from prison early due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
For the next four months, the 23-year-old will wear an ankle monitor and can only leave his house to receive medical attention or to meet with his lawyer.
6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was in prison serving a two-year sentence that ends July 31. He was arrested in 2018 on firearms and racketeering charges. Facing 47 years behind bars, 6ix9ine agreed to plead guilty to nine charges and to testify against alleged Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods members Anthony Ellison and Aljermiah Mack.
Last week, U.S. attorney general William Barr recommended at-risk inmates be released to home confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 6ix9ine’s lawyer said his client suffers from sinusitis, asthma and bronchitis.
Meanwhile, YNW Melly is hoping to be released from prison after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19.
The 20-year-old rapper, whose real name is James Demons, was arrested a year ago for the murders of two up-and-coming rappers and has been in Broward County Jail in Florida awaiting trial.
“He’ll be filing a motion for restricted release in hopes of better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus,” read a tweet from his reps. “He hopes for your support and to recover soon.”
