Alanis Morissette is coming back to where it all started.
The singer is marking the 25th anniversary of her breakthrough album Jagged Little Pill with a performance on July 12 at Ottawa Bluesfest.
It’s a new stop on a previously announced tour that brings Morissette to Toronto’s Budweiser Stage the night before.
Morissette, 45, was born in Ottawa and appeared as a young teen on the homegrown show You Can’t Do That On Television. She released a self-titled pop album in 1991 (her record release party was held in a reception room at Ottawa’s Westin hotel) that spawned hits like “Too Hot,” “Walk Away” and “Feel Your Love.”
Her sophomore album Now is the Time dropped a year later and included the hit “An Emotion Away.” She moved to Toronto and then to Los Angeles, where she recorded Jagged Little Pill and burst on the global scene.
Morissette has lived in California for many years and became a U.S. citizen in 2005 but the mother of three, with husband Mario Treadway, kept a condo in Ottawa until 2016.
Other acts on the Ottawa Bluefest line-up include blink-182, Boyz II Men, The National, Garbage and previously announced headliner Rage Against the Machine. Festival passes go on sale Feb. 19 at 10 a.m.
The diverse list of performers includes Jack Johnson, Marshmello, King Crimson, Vance Joy, Nelly and Travis Tritt.
Canadian acts include Daniel Caesar, Blue Rodeo, Billy Talent, July Talk, and the fours bands of the Saints and Sinners Tour.
