Former U.S. president Barack Obama says it comes as no surprise that outgoing president Donald Trump got support from rappers like Lil Wayne and Lil Pump during the election.
“It’s interesting – people are writing about the fact that Trump increased his support among Black men, and the occasional rapper who supported Trump,” Obama told The Atlantic. “I have to remind myself that if you listen to rap music, it’s all about the bling, the women, the money.
“A lot of rap videos are using the same measures of what it means to be successful as Donald Trump is. Everything is gold-plated. That insinuates itself and seeps into the culture.”
On Monday, Obama shared a playlist of “memorable songs from my administration” that includes only two rap tracks – Jay-Z’s “My 1st Song” and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”
Music has always played an important role in my life—and that was especially true during my presidency. In honor of my book hitting shelves tomorrow, I put together this playlist featuring some memorable songs from my administration. Hope you enjoy it. pic.twitter.com/xWiNQiZzN0
