Only days after assuring her fans that she’s “the happiest I've ever been in my life,” Britney Spears made another appeal to end her father Jamie’s role as her co-conservator.
TMZ reported Wednesday that lawyers for the pop star filed a request to give Bessemer Trust Company sole conservatorship of Spears’ business affairs.
According to the website, Spears learned Oct. 28 that Tristar Sports and Entertainment Group quit as her business manager and Jamie hired Michael Kane of Miller Kaplan to take over without consulting her.
Spears’ legal team has alleged Kane has “a major working relationship” with her father’s lawyers and that Jamie is trying to “retain full functional control of her assets, books and records.”
Jamie was appointed co-conservator of his famous daughter in 2008 following her mental health breakdown. Co-conservator Andrew Wallet resigned last year and Jamie stepped aside temporarily due to health issues and was replaced by Jodi Montgomery, an independent professional conservator.
In August, Spears asked a court to remove her father as conservator and give Montgomery permanent control but a judge approved Jamie and Bessemer Trust as co-conservators and extended the arrangement to Feb. 1, 2021.
In January 2019, Spears announced she was taking “an indefinite work hiatus” to focus on caring for her father, who underwent surgery for a ruptured colon.
This past March, the singer's 13-year-old son Jayden Federline said during an Instagram Live he didn't know if his mother will make music again. “I remember one time I asked her, I said, ‘Mom, what happened to your music?’ and she was like, ‘I don't know, honey. I think I might just quit it.’ I'm like, ‘What? What are you saying? Like, do you know how much bank you make off of that stuff?’”
Spears hasn't released a studio album since 2016's Glory and hasn't performed since her Piece of Me Tour ended in October 2018.
