Oh baby, baby…the songs of Britney Spears are heading to Broadway.
A musical comedy titled Once Upon a One More Time, featuring 23 of the pop star’s hits, is set to premiere this fall in Chicago ahead of a planned Broadway run.
Producers announced Tuesday that previews will begin Oct. 29 and opening night will be Nov. 13. The show is scheduled to close on Dec. 1.
Once Upon a One More Time uses Spears’ songs in a story involving fairy tale characters like Cinderella and Prince Charming. Jon Hartmere, who wrote the musical’s book, told the New York Times the show is “super fun and funny.”
In a statement, Spears said she is excited to have her songs featured in a musical — “especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore.
“This is a dream come true for me!”
Jagged Little Pill, a rock musical based on Canadian singer Alanis Morissette’s breakout 1995 album, opens on Broadway this fall after a sold-out run in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The Broadway musical Head Over Heels, which uses the songs of The Go-Go’s, closed in January after only 225 performances.
