Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had quite the weekend, which involved another reported assassination attempt on his life and announcing that he "hates" Taylor Swift.
Just days after his campaign unveiled a new line of merch featuring a T-shirt design stolen from Taylor Swift's on Eras Tour, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to share his feelings about the world's biggest pop star.
In all caps, the former president wrote, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!"
Needless to say, this did not go unnoticed by the masses. Rap star Flavor Flav, who shared a long hug with Swift at last week's MTV Video Music Awards, retorted with his own feelings for her ("I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT,!!"), while Trump's own faithful called him out for the perplexing decision to publicly go after her.
"Oh boy... this one isn't going to help much. Why couldn't we just ignore her and move on?" wrote one Trump supporter.
Last week, Swift publicly gave Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris her endorsement on Instagram, writing, "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," she declares. "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them."
In the post she also made reference to Trump falsely claiming that Swift had endorsed him last month, when he circulated AI-generated images on social media. "It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation," Swift said. "It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter."
While Trump is busy directing his ire at Swift, Harris and running mate, Governor Tim Walz, are enjoying the boost she gave them. At a rally over the weekend, Walz name-dropped Swift in his speech to the people of Superior, WI.
"Here’s my life hack for all the guys out there: surround yourself with smart women and listen to them and you’ll do just fine," Walz said. "That includes my fellow cat owner Taylor Swift."
Swift's Instagram endorsement for the Harris/Walz campaign earned more than nine million likes and directed 337,826 visitors to the vote.gov site where Americans can register to vote in this fall's presidential election.
Like Trump, Harris has also jumped aboard the Swift-merch bandwagon, selling campaign-themed friendship bracelets - a nod to the popular Swiftie trend - while unabashedly quoting her song, "...Ready for It?"
Donald Trump is getting ratio’d on his own social media platform for his “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” post — including by his own supporters, who are baffled; they say it’s “disturbing” and “isn’t going to help” him win the election and are pleading with him to “stop the dumb shit.” pic.twitter.com/75jHOQy9cu
