Eddie Money announced late last week that he is living with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
The 70-year-old “Take Me Home Tonight” singer said the cancer was detected during a routine checkup and has spread to his liver and lymph nodes. Money, whose real name is Edward Mahoney, said the diagnosis hit him “really, really hard” and his fate is now in “God’s hands.”
In July, Money cancelled the remainder of his 2019 concerts – including one in Grand Forks, BC on Aug. 9 – due to pneumonia he contracted which recovering in hospital from a heart valve procedure.
In May, he told fans he was having the surgery after complaining about shortness of breath.
“I look forward to getting back win stage and rockin’ with you all,” he said in a statement at the time.
Money has released a dozen studio albums since 1977 and is known for hits like “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Walk on Water.”
