Was Shawn Mendes robbed?
Not long after the 2018 Grammy nominations were announced on Tuesday, fans of the Canadian singer started sharing their shock and outrage on Twitter.
“WHY ON FREAKING EARTH IS SHAWN MENDES … NOTTTT NOMINATED FOR THE GRAMMYS?”
“You were snubbed by the Grammys .”
“HOLYYY SHWEEET BALLS. WHATS UP WITH THE GRAMMYS THIS YEAR?? Where is … SHAWN MENDES???”
Thing is, Mendes didn’t qualify this year.
To be considered for a Grammy nomination this year, an album had to have been released between Oct. 1, 2016 and Sept. 30, 2017. Mendes’ Illuminate was released in September 2016.

Canada is still well represented in the nominations. Artists like Alessia Cara, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Daniel Caesar, Michael Bublé, Sarah McLachlan and the late Leonard Cohen all received nods.
Earlier this month, Mendes won his first American Music Award – for Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist. Since 2015, he has collected four iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards, eight MTV Europe Music Awards, four Teen Choice Awards, a Peoples’ Choice Award, and a Juno Award.
