“Old Town Road” has been at No. 1 longer than any other song in the 61-year history of the Billboard Hot 100.
According to the chart dated Aug. 3, which will be published Tuesday, Lil Nas X (aka 20-year-old Montero Hill) has ruled for 17 weeks, breaking a record held by 1995’s “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men and 2017’s “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber.
"I want to say thank you to every single person who has made this possible for me," Lil Nas X said in a video message shared on Monday via social media. He also tweeted: "mariah carey is a legend and i love & respect her."

Aided by remixes featuring Billy Ray Cyrus and Diplo, “Old Town Road” bumped Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in April, in its fifth week on the chart.
The country-rap hit held on to the top spot despite competition from “ME!” by Taylor Swift ft. Brandon Urie; “You Need to Calm Down” by Swift; “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber; and “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish.

“Old Town Road” twice blocked Shawn Mendes from earning his first ever No. 1 hit by keeping “If I Can’t Have You” and his Camila Cabello collaboration “Señorita” in the No. 2 spot.
Lil Nas X’s song could remain at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 a bit longer, thanks to a recently released remix featuring RM from BTS.
He released “Old Town Road” last December, inspired by the Wild West video game Red Dead Redemption 2.
