Nicki Minaj is taking some heat after confirming on Wednesday that she has again collaborated with 6ix9ine.
Both rappers shared the news that “Trollz” will drop at midnight Friday, with a portion of proceeds from the song going to a bail assistance program. In his Instagram post, 6ix9ine wrote "nObOdY gOiN To WoRk wiTH HiM No mOrE" followed by several laughing emojis.
On social media, many people called out Minaj for aligning herself with 6ix9ine, who pleaded guilty in 2015 to using a child in a sexual performance and received three years probation. He had been facing three charges related to acts involving a 13-year-old girl.
Minaj’s husband of seven months, Kenneth Petty recently registered as a sex offender in California due to an attempted rape conviction in 1995. Her brother Jelani was sentenced earlier this year to 25 years to life behind bars for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.
“Nicki Minaj literally heard everyones concerns about her associating with sex offenders and she ignored every last one,” tweeted @HeyImAnde. “She is working with 6ix9ine yet again with more child like art yet again. Nicki this is so tone deaf. Why???”
Writer Keith Nelson Jr. tweeted: “Nicki Minaj is married to a sex offender, her brother is in jail for being a sex offender, and she willingly does songs with someone who snitched on Black men. This woman is....something LMAO.”
“I can remember standing @NICKIMINAJ for years,” tweeted James Criss. “I’m so tired of her immoral bulls**t.”
DJ Akademiks opined: “Nicki Minaj probably one of the only artists who could have been the first to feature with 6ix9ine... after all she been thru... also mixed with the fact she's a legend.. she pretty much can't be cancelled... plus her fan base too strong. Will see if there is peer backlash tho..”
Minaj and 6ix9ine previously collaborated on “Fefe” and “Mama” from 6ix9ine’s 2018 album Dummy Boy.
6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was granted an early release from prison in April due to the COVID-19 outbreak. He was serving a two-year sentence that ends July 31. Facing 47 years behind bars after being arrested in 2018 on firearms and racketeering charges, he agreed to plead guilty to nine charges and to testify against alleged Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods members Anthony Ellison and Aljermiah Mack.
Last month, No Kids Hungry rejected a $200,000 U.S. donation from 6ix9ine because "it is our policy to decline funding from donors whose activities do not align with our mission and values."
