Shawn Mendes was named Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist at the American Music Awards for the second year in a row.
The 20-year-old Canadian singer, who beat Ed Sheeran and Pink on Tuesday, thanked his fans. “I love you guys to death,” he said.
Mendes lost the Favourite Social Artist award to K-pop phenom BTS.
Fellow Canadian The Weeknd came up empty, losing Favourite Male Artist- Soul/R&B to Khalid.
And, it wasn’t a good night for Drake. Despite being the male artist with the most nominations at this year’s AMAs, the Canadian rap star failed to win a single one. Among those beating Drake in eight categories were Post Malone (for Favourite Male Artist - Pop/Rock) and Cardi B (for Favourite Artist - Rap/Hip-Hop).
Cardi gave her daughter Kulture a shout-out during her acceptance speech.
“When I was pregnant I was just so influenced to be like, yo, I got to do this. I got to show people wrong, I got to prove people wrong, because they said I wasn’t going to make it after I had a baby,” said the rapper, who later hit the stage with Bad Bunny and J Balvin for a high-energy performance of “I Like It.”

Taylor Swift opened the AMAs and went on to win four awards, including Favourite Album - Pop/Rock (reputation).
“I always look at albums as chapters in my life and I’m so happy that you like this one,” she said. “I have to be really honest with you about something, I’m even more excited about the next chapter.”
With 23 AMAs, Swift surpassed the late Whitney Houston to become the female artist with the most wins.
