The Smashing Pumpkins have got their admin work cut out for them.
After announcing they will be replacing long-time guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who left the band in October, the band posted an open call for his replacement on their socials.
“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist," the posting read. "The application process is open to anyone who might be interested. Applicants may submit a resume and related materials to: SPGuitar@redlightmanagement.com."
The band has now given an update saying they have been inundated with entries, having received more than 10,000 applications so far.
“The band has received over 10,000 submissions for the position of additional guitarist,” the post says. "Currently there are 8 people working full-time to review each and every one.”
The thought of frontman Billy Corgan watching sizzle reel after sizzle reel of amateur guitarists shredding to "Geek U.S.A." on YouTube or TikTok is something that should never be lost on the imagination.
Of course, the Pumpkins are set to hit the road with Green Day this summer, beginning on July 29, so they've got a lot of work ahead of them.
