The late Rush drummer Neil Peart narrates Growth Rings, a short film about how music marks moments in time.
Created in collaboration with DW Drums, the nearly eight-minute film was written by Peart and Jeremy Bout, who directed with François Driessen.
“Just as the life of a tree can be understood through it's (sic) growth rings, we can look at the milestones and eras of our lives and reminiscence of the songs and bands that resonated with us during those times," reads an official description.

In the voiceover, Peart says: “Like those growth rings, popular music also reflects the weather of its times, evokes and embodies the moods and movements that gave it context ... The songs of our youth, of our courtships, of our good and bad times remain alive to us for life. Music interweaves tightly into our memories.”
At various points, there are clips from Rush concerts (including the opening moments of “The Spirit of Radio”) and the film’s credits roll over the 1984 track “Afterimage.”
