Rush drummer Neil Peart, who died in January at 67, is being honoured with the naming of a pavilion in his hometown.
City councillors in St. Catharines, Ont. voted unanimously this week in favour of “Neil Peart Pavilion.” An online poll showed that more than 80 percent of residents wanted the name.
The $1.8 million structure, which previously had no name, is located in Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie.
Peart wrote the 1975 Rush song “Lakeside Park” about the place where the pavilion now stands. “Lakeside Park / Willows in the breeze," the lyrics read. "Lakeside Park / So many memories."
St. Catharines has set up a task force to come up with other ways to honour Peart, whose family moved to the city when he was two.
