Madonna will reportedly announce Tuesday that she is embarking on a 40th anniversary tour that will include her first performances in Canada in eight years.
According to sources, the Celebration Tour will see the 64-year-old performing her biggest hits at stadiums and arenas around the world, including multiple-night runs at venues in some major cities.
Madonna has not played Canada since 2015’s Rebel Heart Tour, which kicked off with a pair of concerts in Montreal and went on to make stops in Quebec City, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver.
The pop icon’s most recent tour, Madame X, was more like short residencies in cities like New York, Chicago, Miami Beach, London and Paris. It was plagued by cancellations, including more than a dozen blamed on hip and knee injuries.
“I was in tears from the pain of my injuries,” Madonna shared in a message on Instagram in December 2019. “I want to say how deeply sorry I am to all my fans.”
At other shows, delayed start times led to some fans taking legal action.
Last August, Madonna released Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones. Her music, though, has been overshadowed in recent years by bizarre behaviour on social media – including licking water from a dog bowl, sharing misinformation about COVID-19 and continuing to alter her appearance.
Reps for Madonna have not addressed multiple reports about a tour announcement.
Almost one year ago, Madonna took to Instagram to confirm that auditions for her forthcoming biopic are underway. “Auditions for my film are a surreal experience,” she captioned the clip. “But I’m enjoying dancing to the Classics!!”
Madonna said in 2020 that she will direct the story of her life. “I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in a statement at the time.
“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
