Wonder, the fourth studio album from Shawn Mendes, is his fourth to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, Wonder earned 89,000 “equivalent album units” in its first week of release. Of that, 54,000 were physical copies of the album.
It’s a significant drop from his 2018 self-titled album, which debuted with 182,000 equivalent album units, including 142,000 traditional album sales.
Mendes’ first album Handwritten debuted at No. 1 in May 2015 with 119,000 equivalent album units (of which 106,000 were physical copies) and his 2016 sophomore album Illuminate was No. 1 with 145,000 equivalent album units (of which 121,000 were physical copies).
Wonder has, so far, failed to spawn a big hit. The title track debuted at No. 18 and fell four spots in its second week and Mendes’ collaboration with Justin Bieber, “Monster,” debuted at No. 8 and then plummeted to No. 38 in its second week.
The Billboard 200 reflects album sales and streaming in the U.S. The updated chart will be published Tuesday.
