We all know that Ed Sheeran is a pro at handling backlash, especially after all the criticism after last year's brief (and we mean brief) cameo on Game of Thrones. Now, the pop singer/songwriter has proved that he knows a thing or two about responding to online trolls, as per a recent Instagram post.
In a viral meme that has been reportedly been going around since the release of his latest album, Divide, a package of Sainsbury's basic sliced cheese is shown front and center with the "15 cheesy singles" description of the packaging highlighted along with the description: "Just got Ed Sheeran's new album." Sheeran got wind of the post and decided to comment on the dig with a simple three-word reply: "It's got 16." As you might know, the 26-year-old singer's LP has a total of 16 tracks, including "Castle on the Hill," "Shape of You" and "Perfect."
In related Sheeran news, the chart-topper's blockbuster set was the most popular album of 2017, helping the industry enjoy a pleasant growth spurt during the year, as per a year-end report by Nielsen Music. According to the stats, Divide sold 2.764 million equivalent album units, which incorporates traditional album sales, downloads and streaming tracks. Following Sheeran on the year-end list was Kendrick Lamar's DAMN and Taylor Swift's Reputation at the no. 3 position. Divide's latest single, a remixed version of "Perfect" featuring Beyoncé, is currently riding high on the charts as its enjoying multiple weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.
