The year was 1987...
The world population was only at 5 billion people back then. The Simpsons starts on TV. Films like Good Morning Vietnam, Leathal Weapon, Robocop and Dirty Dancing are the latest craze. Michael Jackson has just released BAD. Bryan Adams came out with Into The Fire, and U2 launches The Joshua Tree.
Fashion is at its all time high of bad taste, and don't get me started on hair styles!

Another subject of note that year: Never Gonna Give You Up, Rick Astley's single.
Reading this title, you must now be starting to think "ahhhhh, that rings a bell"...
If you're my age or older, it's more of a " Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert youuuu ".
Check it out, with around 250 million views, it's not too shabby. The single was a real worldwide phenomenon:
Yep, that song marked a generation (and not just because of the dance moves)! And it's a gift that keeps on giving, as it still is popular on the radio and in clubs.
So that was Rick Astley in his 20's. He quickly retired, wanting to spend time with family, and do different things, while not giving up music.
In the 2000's, a very popular prank would clickbait you towards the famous song's video. Even the singer got rickrolled by his own family!
It's been 15 years since Astley's last release. The new album, 50, came out in Canada last summer.
The singer turned producer for this album, as well as multi instrumentalist as he played every part. Gone are the 80's synths and drum machines. Instead, Astley rides the current sonic trends, embracing a mix of R&B, and pop.
