Cole Swindell has returned with a brand new song called "Break Up In The End," the lead single from the country star's forthcoming third album – his first since 2016’s You Should Be Here.
Swindell began teasing the song, written by Jon Nite, Chase McGill and Jessie Jo Dillon, earlier this week on social media.
”This is one of those songs from the first time I heard it I knew it was special,” he tweeted. “So many people can relate to the lyrics.”
During an interview with iHeartRadio, Swindell explained that although he's a songwriter, he's thrilled to have some of the best songwriters in Nashville sending him songs to record. After he heard "Break Up In The End," he was so moved that he knew he couldn't pass it up.
“Just holding on to it, trying not to tell too much about it and just waiting to put it out is tough for a guy like me,” he explained. “But I'm just glad to have new music and know that we're about to get to share this song with the whole world and hopefully they react to how I did the first time I heard it."
Swindell explained that choosing the first single for an album is tough, after narrowing down the track list to 12 to 15 songs. He said he looks for the song that will be most impactful.
Despite the heartbreaking nature of "Break Up In The End," there will be a wide variety of songs on the record.
"We're gonna have the fun stuff. I think that'll always be,” Swindell promised. “I love to have that because I think about my live show as well, when I'm recording an album. We need those moments, like, the 'You Should Be Here' moments, but also we need the fun moments, and the ones that are gonna get everybody dancing.
Swindell recently kicked off his Reason To Drink Tour, traveling across the U.S. with two of country music's biggest rising stars, Chris Janson and Lauren Alaina.
