Adam Levine apologized Friday for a lacklustre performance in Chile.
“Last night wasn’t our best and, for that, all I can say is I’m really sorry,” the Maroon 5 frontman said in a video he shared via Instagram Story.
“To be totally frank, there were some things holding me back sonically last night and I let them get to me and it impacted how I was behaving on stage, which is unprofessional and I apologize for that.”
Maroon 5 was roasted on social media and in the local media for their set at the Viña del Mar Festival, which was being televised.
One fan tweeted: "Their show was bulls**t. Adam's voice was awful, the whole band was reluctant and bored. They didn't even say goodbye to their public. I'm so disappointed."
La Tercera described Levine as "cold, reluctant and preoccupied" while CHV News reported that Levine was "evidently uncomfortable" and "his face showed no interest."
In a video clip shot as the band exited the stage, Levine seems to be accusing someone on his team of lying about the event. "That was a TV show that was an hour long," he said. "It was not a concert.”
Reps for Maroon 5 said in a statement that there were “numerous technical difficulties throughout the show” that “created a very difficult situation for the band to deliver their normal show.”
In his apology, Levine also blamed technical issues for his mood. “I struggled a lot and sometimes it’s really hard for me to mask the struggle,” he explained. “I did let you guys down and I apologize.”
Chilean singer Denise Rosenthal, in a since-deleted tweet, claimed Levine “arrived here about 25 minutes late, and asked that no one look him in the face, to turn to the wall.”
