After Kesha released her powerful new single "Praying," as well as its accompanying music video yesterday (July 6), Dr. Luke has since reacted to the song, via a spokesperson.
Kesha's new single takes aim at her legal battles with Dr. Luke, who she accused of raping her years ago. The singer spoke about the meaning of "Praying" on Lena Dunham's site, "Lenny Weekly." The singer said: "'Praying' was written about that moment when the sun starts peeking through the darkest storm clouds, creating the most beautiful rainbow," she wrote. "Once you realize that you will in fact be OK, you want to spread love and healing. If you feel like someone has wronged you, get rid of that hate, because it will just create more negativity."
She continued: "One thing that has brought me great relief is praying for those people. Being angry and resentful will do nothing but increase your own stress and anxiety — and hate is the fuel that grows the viruses. Don't let anyone steal your happiness!"
Though Kesha's message is positive and uplifting, one person who doesn't seem to have any compassion for the singer is Dr. Luke. The famed producer's spokesperson released a statement to Billboard that boldly asserted that he's still in control of her career and music.
The statement reads:
"There was no change in Kesha's contractual recording obligations -- she has not succeeded on any legal claim or motion to avoid them. Instead, she was always free to record and refused to. Now, as legally required all along, the album was released with Dr. Luke's approval by Kemosabe which is a joint venture label of Dr. Luke and Sony."
"Praying" will be featured on her first album in five years entitled Rainbow, which drops August 11.
