A previously unreleased version of a song Freddie Mercury recorded in 1986 was unveiled early Thursday.
“Time Waits For No One” (originally just “Time”) was the title track to the London stage musical starring Laurence Olivier and Cliff Richard. The Queen frontman recorded it at Abbey Road Studios at the invitation of musician and producer Dave Clark, who penned the song with John Christie.
“It’s very special,” Clark told iHeartRadio. “When I went into the studio to record the song … it gave me goosebumps. It was magical.”

Clark found Mercury’s vocal track in the vault in late 2017 and got to work on crafting a new version that highlights his unique voice. He brought in Mike Moran to play piano.
“It’s a great tribute to Freddie because he was an amazing singer,” said Clark.
Mercury died in 1991 at the age of 45.
The song comes with a video that was created using footage of Mercury performing on an empty stage. “It’s all Freddie,” Clark said. “No gimmicks."
