Rock icon Jeff Beck has partnered with actor-musician Johnny Depp for a timely cover of John Lennon’s 1970 song “Isolation.”
In a message on Instagram, Beck said he Depp recorded the track last year.
“We weren’t expecting to release it so soon but given all the hard days and true ‘isolation’ that people are going through in these challenging times, we decided now might be the right time to let you all hear it,” he explained.
“We hope you find some comfort and solidarity in our take on this Lennon classic.”
Depp, in a lengthy video message he shared on Instagram, described the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had and urged people to explore their creativity.
He said “Isolation” is “a sublime John Lennon song” with prothetic lyrics that are “pure poetry.”
Depp added: “The profundity of his lyrics seemed to Jeff and me especially fitting for what’s happening right now. The song is about isolation, fear and the existential risks to our world.
“We wanted to give the song to you and we truly both hope in our own little way it helps you get through these unusual times that we’re experiencing, even if it just helps to pass the time as we endure isolation together.”
