Nickelback made it onto the floor of the United States Congress… sort of.

During a debate Thursday about voter rights for prisoners, Wisconsin Democrat Rep. Mark Pocan said only four out of 77,000 people surveyed were in favour of the proposed provisions. He said this is “probably about the per cent of people who think Nickelback is their favourite band in this country. It’s pretty low.”

Illinois Republican Rep. Rodney Davis fired back: ‘Why would you criticize one of the greatest bands of the 1990s?” (Nickelback released only two albums in the ‘90s.)

Nickelback is, in fact, second only to The Beatles among foreign rock bands for sales in the U.S.

Davis admitted he has a song by the Canadian rock band “on my running playlist that I listen to on a regular basis.” He said he was ridiculed “when I posted my playlist one time.”

Pocan wrapped up the discussion by saying: "I appreciate that very brave admission of your fandom for Nickelback. That’s very brave, and I do recognize that. I didn’t think we were gonna talk about Nickelback on the floor today, somehow it came up."
