Sophie Turner is speaking out about her divorce from Joe Jonas, calling the aftermath "the worst few days of my life.”
In a new interview with British Vogue, the 28-year-old actress explains that criticism of her being on set for the shooting of her TV crime series Joan made her feel guilty about time away from her two children.
“I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave," she says. "My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out… It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real! I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.’”
Turner found solace in a friend, who offered her a "safe space" following the divorce. The friend? Her husband's ex-girlfriend and the biggest pop star on the planet, Taylor Swift. While visiting New York last September, Turner reached out to Swift, asking for some advice on a place to rent for her and the children. Instead, Swift insisted they stay with her.
“Taylor was an absolute hero to me this year,” says Turner. “I’ve never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space. She really has a heart of gold.”
Looking back on how the events unfolded, Turner says it wasn't how she wanted it to happen. But both sides are amicable now and doing what they can to make it harmonious for the whole family.
“I’m unhappy with the way everything played out, especially when it comes to my children. They’re the victims in all of this," she says. "But I think we’re doing the best we can. I’m confident that we can figure it out. Joe is a great father to our children and that’s all that I can ask for.”
