A woman has been found guilty of stabbing her boyfriend because he got them kicked out of a Bryan Adams concert.
The unidentified 34-year-old woman was convicted in a St. John’s court on March 19 of assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. She was also found guilty of assaulting – by spitting on – the peace officer who arrested her.
The couple were at Adams’ concert at Mile One Centre last July when they got into an altercation with another concert-goer. The woman said she left the show when her boyfriend was ejected by security guards.
The St. John’s Telegraph reported that Judge James Walsh heard how the woman confronted her boyfriend once they were back home.
“I remember going upstairs and asking (him) why he would ruin the last 20 minutes of the concert when there was basically no need,” she testified. “I wanted him to leave. I told him he ruined my night, that he should have kept his hands to himself and none of it would have happened. I was pretty upset.”
They fought and the man ended up with a puncture wound on his face from a pairing knife. The man testified it may have been a self-inflicted injury.
The couple lost custody of their three children following the incident.
Judge Walsh said he didn’t accept the woman’s version of events. "Her version of events is enhanced by motivation to get her kids back,” he said. “She was so intoxicated on that night and her behaviour was so outrageous and belligerent, that to try and reconstruct a memory after the fact to minimize what transpired is not credible.”
The woman will be back in court in May for sentencing.
