Contrary to blogosphere reports, Bruno Mars will not portray Prince in a new biopic, which was reportedly lined up to air on Netflix.

On Tuesday, a representative for the pop star told the Associated Press that the report was "100 per cent false." Netflix backed the debunking in a follow-up statement, admitting that there's not even any film in development. Mars' rep echoed the sentiments in an e-mail to iHeartRadio, calling the initial story "a total fabrication."

Word of Mars' supposed role originated with the UK's Daily Mirror, which published a story over the weekend that claimed he was "being lined up to play Prince."
