    R. Kelly has been charged with bribing a government official 25 years ago so he could marry 15-year-old singer Aaliyah.

U.S. federal prosecutors allege the R&B singer paid an unnamed government employee in Illinois to get a fake ID document for “Jane Doe 1,” showing that she was 18, on Aug. 30, 1994. Kelly, 27 at the time, married Aaliyah the following day.

Their union was annulled after Aaliyah’s parents found out. She died in a plane crash in 2001.

Kelly has never spoken publicly about the marriage but his lawyer has said the singer was not aware of Aaliyah’s age at the time.

Kelly has been in custody in Chicago since being arrested in July. He is awaiting trials in three states for a long list of charges related to alleged sexual acitivty with minors.
