Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' Is 1st Album To Sell 1M Copies This Year
Taylor Swift’s Folklore has become the first album to sell a million copies in the U.S. this year.
According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, Folklore is currently No. 1 for the eighth nonconsecutive week since its release in July thanks to autographed CDs that were sold on Swift’s website.
The “million copies” figure is comprised of sales of actual albums combined with downloads and streaming.
Folklore is Swift’s ninth album to hit a million in the U.S. Her previous album Lover was the only one to sell a million copies in 2019.
Last month, the pop star broke a record held since 1987 by the late Whitney Houston as the female artist with the most weeks with an album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Among all acts, Swift is fifth – behind The Beatles (132 weeks), Elvis Presley (67), Garth Brooks (52) and Michael Jackson (51).
