Ed Sheeran deleted his Twitter account on Monday – at least for a few hours.
The move came only days after the singer vowed to stop reading his Twitter feed.
“I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things,” Sheeran told The Sun. “Twitter’s a platform for that.”
Sheeran complained that “one comment ruins your day” and said “trying to work out why people dislike me so much” has been a “head-f***.
On Tuesday morning, Sheeran’s Twitter was gone. He had nearly 20 million followers. It returned later in the day, with fewer than 3,800 followers.
The singer was the target of nasty comments on social media Monday following his cameo in the season premiere of Game of Thrones.
On Monday, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Sheeran voiced a character named Brendan for an episode of The Simpsons that will air in October.
Sheeran wrote about his The Simpsons cameo on Instagram: “This year continues to be equally surreal and amazing. Watch out for this one, me and Lisa have a whole thing going on x”.
