Actress Emma Roberts is eyeing the role of Britney Spears in the upcoming film adaptation of pop star's best-selling memoir.
Earlier this month it was announced that Universal Pictures had acquired the rights to The Woman In Me, which Spears herself seemed to confirm on socials.
According to Spears's former assistant and friend Felicia Culotta, the Princess of Pop has been lobbying for Roberts to win the lead role.
Culotta told TMZ, that Spears feels Roberts "would be a stellar choice for Brit."
Roberts agrees. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, the actress says she heard the comments made by Culotta and admitted that playing Britney Spears in the biopic is "a dream come true."
"I was like, I love her assistant," Roberts said. "I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true. I mean, I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, “I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.”
Roberts adds that she is a lifelong fan and has even weirded out her son with her fandom.
"I mean, I sing Britney to my son in the bath all the time," she explained. "I’m always like, 'God, he must think I’m so weird.' That’s some millennial parenting."
Roberts has evidence to prove that she is suited for the role. Last year she posted a video of herself receiving a copy of Spears's memoir, captioning it with "this is the story of a girl named @emmaroberts who will be reading this entire book in one sitting."
