Canadian country singer Orville Peck is riding out the COVID-19 outbreak by working on new music.

“I’m self-isolating because I think if we are all responsible for a small amount of time we can definitely come back from this,” Peck told Britain’s NME. “Everybody’s safety and health should always be the priority.

“I’m lucky that I can spend this time to work on making art and music – but it all feels very strange.”

Peck, of course, is the alter ego of 32-year-old Daniel Pitout, who was born in South Africa but spent most of his life in Vancouver and Toronto.

Peck, who released his debut album Pony a year ago, was forced to cancel his spring/summer tour dates due to the pandemic. His schedule included sets at festivals like Coachella and Stagecoach in California and Montreal’s Osheaga.

“Economically it will be tough but I think art has always persevered and even thrived through the worst of times,” he said. “If anything, we can always find hope in that.”
