A member of Spanish pop group Super Hollywood Orchestra was killed early Sunday when she was struck by a pyrotechnic device. Joana Sainz Garcia was 30.
About 1,000 fans at an event in Las Berlanas, Spain witnessed the on-stage explosion that hit Garcia in the abdomen and knocked her to the ground, according to reports. The dancer was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“[We] express our most heartfelt condolences to the family, partner, and friends for the loss of our colleague Joana,” read a message on the Facebook page of promoter Prones 1.
“She always showed exemplary behaviour, both personal and artistic, in addition to a great human quality. It’s going to be very difficult for all of us to overcome her absence.”
