Country music almost had a feud on its hand this week when Zach Bryan took a potshot at Walker Hayes and his 2022 hit single, "Fancy Like."
Bryan took to X to congratulate his friend Tyler Childers on his recent #1 hit, "In Your Love," responding to a story pointing out that it has taken Childers ten years to score his "first ever" hit. "‘First ever’ is f**kn insane, one of the best songwriters to ever do it," Bryan wrote.
"dude relax, we don’t have a choice in what happens after songs are released," Bryan elaborated. "I am glad he’s on the radio, it’s just silly it took ten years, shows the validity of it."
He then followed that up with, "Imagine being radio (whoever the hell that is), hearing Shake the Frost and being like, 'no no let's go with the Applebees song," targeting Walker Hayes' "Fancy Like," which name-drops Applebees.
When a fan responded saying Bryan shouldn't do Hayes "dirty like that," he walked back the comment, adding that he was "not insulting anyone! Meant it with humor not malice, different strokes different folks was just bent about the first ever on mainstream radio thing my bad."
Taking the high road and adding humour to the situation, Hayes replied to Bryan's tweet, writing, "Big shout to radio for playing dat Applebees song Zach and Tyler praying y’alls continued success ."
