Timmins, Ontario native Lights has been gearing up for the release of her fourth studio album this fall. Titled Skin & Earth, the 30-year-old singer has decided to release it in a pretty unconventional way: through a post-apocalyptic comic series.
The series comes after the singer introduced herself as Captain Lights in 2008, and its a graphic novel of sorts that tells the story of a girl named En who is trying to get by in a post-apocalyptic world. “I’ve always found a way to connect comics and music, but never so directly,” she told Billboard.
Lights plans to release monthly issues alongside songs from the upcoming LP. “As of now there are only six issues, and that completes the record,” she says. “But I don’t think it’ll end there. I’m not just letting it go.”
On Friday (July 14), the Canadian singer shared her song “Skydiving”, an upbeat track that has her sing: “You got me/ Skydiving/ You got me/ High flying/ Oh, I’m jumping off of the world now. I’ll never stop, never slow down”. This release follows her other track, “Giants”.
Skin & Earth is out sometime this fall. Listen to “Skydiving” below:
