Miley Cyrus, Cody Simpson Call It Quits
Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson have called it quits after less than a year of dating.
On Friday, Cyrus addressed the news in via Instagram Live. “A year ago, almost to this exact date, the media tried to tell my story for me and control my narrative, and I'm just not accepting that. So today, it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up, it was confirmed by a 'reliable source' even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the two individuals that are participating in it.
“But, for right now, two halves can't make a whole and we're individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be. Like everybody else at this age, we're just deciding who we wanna be with our lives, what we wanna do with our lives. And so, don't make it some drama story if next week we're out hanging out or getting pizza. We've been friends for 10 years and we're gonna continue to be friends.”
Cyrus, 27, and Simpson, 23, started dating shortly after her fling with Kaitlynn Carter following the end of her brief marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth. Cyrus referred to Simpson as her "bf" in an Instagram Story last October, when the Aussie singer was at her side while she was in hospital being treated for tonsillitis. He was also there as she recovered from vocal cord surgery last November.
Last December, a rep for Simpson issued a statement shooting down rumours that he had cheated on Cyrus with Playboy model Jordy Murray.
In May, Cyrus directed the video for Simpson's “Captain’s Dance With the Devil," in which he explained, he was able to explore his "affinity for drag.” Just last month, the couple recreated a viral TikTok video.
